So… You finally finished remodeling your bathroom. What now?! Have a large deck? Need somewhere to sit? Need somewhere to store all of your outdoor equipment? No Problem! Follow the simple 8-step guide below to learn how to build a deck storage bench of your own!
Materials Needed
– 10 2” x 6” x 16’ Boards
– 6 2” x 6” x 8’ Boards
– 2 4” x 4” x 8’ Posts
– 210 3-1/2” Screws
– 5 Heavy Duty Hinges
– Deck Stain
STEP 1 – Begin by cutting 8 18″ pieces of 4″ x 4″ post. This can easily be done using a circular saw. Space out your pieces as shown in the image above.
STEP 2 – Using the 3-1/2″ screws, attach 6 of the 16′ boards to the 4″ x 4″ posts. Begin with the bottom piece, then do the top, making sure the top and bottom edges all line up with the edges of the posts. Attach the middle boards, making sure to have even spacing between all 3 16′ boards. Space out your pieces as shown in the image above.
STEP 3 – Using the 3-1/2″ screws, attach 6 20″ lengths of the 2″ x 6″ boards to the ends of the 16′ boards. Begin with the bottom piece, then do the top, making sure the top and bottom edges all line up with the edges of the posts. Attach the middle boards, making sure to have even spacing between all 3 16′ boards. Space out your pieces as shown in the image above.
STEP 4 – Using the 3-1/2″ screws, attach 12 20″ lengths of the 2″ x 6″ boards to the insides of the 4″ x 4″ posts, as shown in the photo above. Begin with the bottom piece, then do the top, making sure the top and bottom edges all line up with the edges of the posts. These cross-members will add the needed support to your bench.
STEP 5 – Using the 3-1/2″ screws, attach 5 19″ lengths of the 2″ x 6″ boards to the remaining 4 16′ boards. Space out your pieces as shown in the image above., and make sure to screw the 16′ boards from the top as well, for added support.
STEP 6 – Using the screws provided, attach the 5 hinges to the top along the 16′ board. Placing the hinges behind the cross-members will help hide them, providing a better look to your finished bench. Space out your hinges as shown in the image above.
STEP 7 – Using the screws provided, attach the top to the base along the back 16′ board. Make sure all of your edges line up before securing the top to your base.
STEP 8 – Stain your deck to the desired finish. Enjoy!
